Injectable fillers have become so popular, so widely used and well accepted that millions of applications and procedures have added up to a body of experience that can be impressive and reassuring.
Among the most successful injectables, of course, are Botox and Juvéderm. Representing two different approaches to smoothing facial wrinkles, both injectables produce virtually immediate results and last for several months.
Botox relaxes muscles under the skin to smooth surface wrinkles. It is often used to erase frown likes and forehead wrinkles. The results are temporary – lasting four to six months in most cases – but there is little or no downtime and most patients see the results they seek almost immediately.
Juvéderm smooths facial folds and wrinkles by bringing back volume with a natural dermal filler made from a smooth, water-soluble substance that already is present to some extent within the skin. Lip enhancement is another role that Juvéderm can take because of its ability to put back volume that may have been lost as we age.
Others are Less Famous, Yet Effective
Restylane Lyft is an injectable filler that performs in much the same way as Juvéderm – by adding volume with a filler built from a naturally occurring substance. Restylane Lyft uses hydrophilic – or “water-loving” – substances whose molecules attract and bind many times their own weight in moisture. This quality enables it to produce results that, although not permanent, are long-lasting.
Radiesse is an injectable that stimulates collagen growth, and because it interacts with the skin’s own processes the results can last as long as a year in many cases. Radiesse is effective, too, in some areas not addressed by other injectables, such as flat or hollow cheeks.
And Some are Real Innovations
Bellafill is a dual-action compound of natural collagen and microspheres that attract new collagen from the body’s own supply. So, Bellafill provides immediate volume to smooth wrinkles and folds, and as the collagen in Bellafill is absorbed gradually by the body, the microspheres stay on, providing a matrix of support for the skin’s own collagen and giving lasting results.
