Botox, Dysport & Xeomin: We’ll Keep You Looking Natural

Botox, Dysport & Xeomin are three of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the United States, and Dr. Meghan McGovern is one of the top injectors in the Savannah, GA, area. And for good reason. Her patients love how they look and return time and again.

Botox

Botox is a popular choice for wrinkle treatment. Botox injections are used to temporarily relax the muscles under the skin that cause facial wrinkles, especially frown lines between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Botox wrinkle treatment can help you look younger and more relaxed without surgery.

Botox is most commonly used for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles including:

  • “11s” between the brows
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet

However, Botox can also be used for other medical purposes, such as treating chronic migraine and muscle spasms.

The wrinkle-reducing effects of Botox injections are not permanent. Although results vary, they typically last four to six months and can be repeated as necessary. Botox uses a Botulinum toxin that is injected into the skin and into the muscles with a very fine needle. The toxin works to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and frown lines over time. The injection process only takes about 10 minutes, and most patients do not need anesthesia, although a topical anesthetic can be applied, if desired.

A Botox treatment requires little to no downtime. Some patients may experience mild side effects, such as slight redness or itching, but these will go away within a few days.

Dysport

Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults less than 65 years of age. With Dysport, there is little to no downtime after injection.

Like Botox, Botulinum Type A is Dysport’s active ingredient. Once injected, Dysport disables the nerves around the injection site. This limits muscle movement, relaxing the area and smoothing out the skin. However, Dysport positions itself primarily to treat moderate to severe forehead lines and glabellar lines.

Xeomin

After Botox and Dysport came Xeomin. Approved by the FDA for the treatment of severe frown lines and adults with cervical dystonia or blepharospasm (eye spasm), Xeomin is used by many people worldwide. The new botulinum toxin type A product blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity. It is used to treat spasms in the neck muscles and eye muscle conditions which are caused by nerve disorders.

While all three fillers (Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin) provide similar results, they have important differences. Unlike Botox and Dysport, Xeomin does not contain additives. As a result, a patient’s likelihood of developing antibodies may decrease. Furthermore, it takes roughly one week for the full effects of Xeomin injections to be visible. Once this occurs, results last from three to six months.

As with all filler treatments, you may experience some mild redness and temporary swelling. A very small percentage of patients may experience some bleeding and bruising at the injection site.
