What to Expect

The Procedure
Small incisions are made and a thin cannula suctions out fat cells permanently. Performed under local or general anesthesia.
Recovery
Most patients return to work in 3-7 days. Compression garments worn 4-6 weeks. Final contours visible at 3-6 months.

Plan Your Downtime
You must start walking immediately. Expect the areas to be bruised and swollen, and expect a large amount of clear or blood-tinged drainage — that's usual and expected.
Compression on, walking immediately
If you had suction of your arms, flanks, back, knees, thighs, hips, or abdomen, you have a compression garment on at the end of surgery. The extra pressure helps reduce swelling and discomfort. Expect bruising, swelling, and a large amount of clear or blood-tinged drainage on the dressing or garment.
Do this
- Start walking immediately.
- Only remove the garment to shower or for laundering.
- Wear TED hose always except to shower.
- Drink plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.
- Get up and walk four or five times a day.
- Always lie with your feet elevated above the level of your heart.
- Always have your legs elevated if sitting in a chair.
Avoid
- No bending, stooping, or lifting.
- No strenuous activities or aerobic exercise.
- Do not sit in a chair with knees bent and feet on the floor.
- Do not smoke or use any form of nicotine.
- Avoid long automobile trips or flights.

You may shower after 24 hours.
Wear compression stockings for 7 days. Remove to shower or launder.
Cleared week 1Do not return for 3 weeks.
