The Consultation
Dr. McGovern will evaluate your anatomy, discuss your aesthetic goals, and help you choose the right implant type, size, and placement. You'll have time to try sizers and ask questions.
The Procedure
Performed at RenewalASC in Savannah under general anesthesia. The surgery takes 1-2 hours. Incisions are placed strategically to minimize visible scarring.
Recovery
Most patients return to work in 7-10 days and resume full activities in 4-6 weeks. You'll have follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and ensure optimal results.

Plan Your Downtime
Let your body tell you what you can and cannot do. You may resume normal activities at any time if they cause no pain or discomfort.
Keep the implants in position
Sleep on your back rather than your side — we want your implants to stay in perfect position during the initial healing process. This is not a life-or-death issue; if you can't sleep on your back, sleep in another comfortable position.
Do this
- Wear your bra at all times — it acts as the dressing, holding the breast and implants in position. Try to keep the bra even.
- Wear TED hose (compression stockings) at all times except to shower.
- Drink plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.
- Get up and walk four or five times a day.
- Always lie with your feet elevated above the level of your heart.
- Always have your legs elevated if sitting in a chair.
Avoid
- Avoid heavy lifting and straining.
- Do not wear an underwire bra.
- No driving for 24 hours after taking a narcotic.
- Do not sit in a chair with knees bent and feet on the floor.
- Do not smoke or use any form of nicotine.
- Avoid long automobile trips or flights.
Can I do this yet? Day 1
Get up and walk four or five times a day.
Resume at any time if they cause no pain or discomfort. Let your body tell you.
After 24 to 48 hours. Leave steri-strips on. Bra and stockings may come off to shower.
Usually 4–6 days with power steering, once you're comfortable and can drive defensively. Never within 24 hours of a narcotic.
Cleared day 4You may remove the stockings after 7 days.
Cleared week 1Avoid for a minimum of two weeks.
Cleared week 2Wear a bra at all times for 2 weeks; after that you may sleep without it.
Cleared week 2Most dissolve. Removable sutures come out within 2 weeks.
Cleared week 2Do not return to aerobic exercise for 3 weeks.
Cleared week 3Do not go braless during the day for 4–6 weeks after surgery.
Cleared week 4Sleep on your back during initial healing so the implants stay in position.

- One breast is significantly more swollen than the other breast, usually accompanied by a sudden increase in pain on the swollen side.
- Bleeding that continuously oozes through the bra.
- A fever of 100 degrees or higher.
- Redness and warmth in the surgical site. Foul-smelling drainage coming from the incision.
