A breast lift — or mastopexy — reshapes and elevates sagging breasts to restore a youthful, perky contour that makes you feel like yourself again.

The Consultation
Dr. McGovern will assess your degree of ptosis and discuss whether a lift alone or combined with implants will best achieve your goals.
The Procedure
Performed at RenewalASC under general anesthesia over 2-3 hours. Excess skin is removed, breast tissue reshaped, and the nipple-areola complex repositioned.
Recovery
Most patients return to desk work in 1-2 weeks. A surgical support bra is worn for 4-6 weeks. Full recovery at 4-6 weeks.

Plan Your Downtime
Water does not hurt healing incisions. The bra acts as your dressing — it does most of the work of holding everything in position.
Dressings and bleeding control
Gauze pads or fluffs cover the incision lines. Some oozing of blood at the incisions is normal. Small amounts of oozing and bleeding are very common.
Do this
- Reinforce the incision areas with gauze or absorbent pads if necessary.
- If oozing is more than slow staining of the gauze, apply firm pressure for 20–30 minutes before calling the office.
- Wear TED hose at all times except to shower.
- Drink plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.
- Get up and walk four or five times a day.
- Always lie with your feet elevated above the level of your heart.
- Always have your legs elevated if sitting in a chair.
Avoid
- Do not wear an underwire bra.
- No driving for 24 hours after taking a narcotic.
- Do not sit in a chair with knees bent and feet on the floor.
- Do not smoke or use any form of nicotine.
- Avoid long automobile trips or flights.
Can I do this yet? Day 1
Get up and walk four or five times a day.
Water does not hurt healing incisions. You may shower after 24–48 hours. Leave steri-strips in place but wet them twice daily.
When driving does not cause pain — usually 4–6 days with power steering. Never within 24 hours of a narcotic.
Cleared day 4Wear the stockings for 7 days, always except to shower.
Cleared week 1Do not return to aerobic exercise for 3 weeks.
Cleared week 3Wear the bra for at least 3 weeks. After that, if healing well, you may sleep without it.
Cleared week 3You should not go braless during the day for 6 weeks after surgery.
Cleared week 6Avoid long automobile trips or flights.
