Breast Reduction in Statesboro, GA
Consultations and follow-up visits at our Statesboro office on Merchant Way, with surgery at RenewalASC, our accredited surgery center in Savannah.
Breast Reduction for Statesboro Patients
For many women in Statesboro, the weight of very large breasts shows up long before it shows up in the mirror: an ache across the shoulders by midafternoon, grooves where bra straps press in, a rash beneath the breast fold that comes back every summer. Breast reduction treats the cause. Dr. Meghan McGovern, a board-certified plastic surgeon, removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin, then reshapes and lifts what remains so the breast sits in proportion to your frame.
Your care stays close to home. Consultations and follow-up visits take place at our Statesboro office on Merchant Way. The surgery itself is performed at RenewalASC, our accredited ambulatory surgery center in Savannah, under general anesthesia, and takes 2 to 3 hours. Most patients go home the same day.
Many women notice relief from back and neck pain soon after surgery. Most return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks, with full recovery at 4 to 6 weeks. Because breast reduction is a functional procedure as well as a cosmetic one, many insurance plans cover it once medical necessity is documented, and our team will help you through the pre-authorization process. Individual results vary.

What to Expect
For women carrying the daily weight of overly large breasts, breast reduction can ease real physical discomfort. Dr. McGovern reshapes and repositions the breast to create a size that is proportionate to your frame and comfortable to live in.
Ideal Candidates
For women carrying chronic back, neck, or shoulder pain, skin irritation under the breasts, trouble exercising, or self-consciousness tied to disproportionately large breasts.
The Consultation
Dr. McGovern will talk with you about your symptoms, the size you have in mind, and what you expect from surgery. She'll explain which technique will best achieve a proportionate result.
The Procedure
The procedure takes place at RenewalASC under general anesthesia and lasts 2 to 3 hours. Excess tissue, fat, and skin are removed, and the breast is reshaped and lifted.
Recovery
Most patients notice relief from pain right away. You can return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks, with full recovery at 4 to 6 weeks.
Artistry Meets Precision
Dr. McGovern sees breast reduction as both a functional and an aesthetic procedure. She understands the physical pain, the daily limitations, and the emotional toll that overly large breasts can carry.
Her technique weighs the reduction in size against the shape it leaves behind, so the result eases discomfort while giving you a breast that looks proportionate and natural.
Plan Your Downtime
Rest and do not overexert the first two weeks after surgery. It's more important for you to sleep than to rigidly follow any position suggestion.
Rest, elevate, and manage oozing
Steri-strips and a surgical bra were applied around the breasts at surgery. Small amounts of oozing and bleeding are common. Sleep on your back instead of your side, with two pillows elevating and supporting both your head and back to keep swelling down.
Do this
- Wear compression hose at all times except to shower.
- If oozing is more than slow staining of the gauze, apply firm pressure for 20–30 minutes.
- If staining through occurs, reinforce with gauze or absorbent pads.
- Leave the suture strips / brown tape / white tape over the incisions in place and wet them twice daily.
- Drink plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.
- Get up and walk four or five times a day.
- Always lie with your feet elevated above the level of your heart.
- Always have your legs elevated if sitting in a chair.
- DO NOT SMOKE.
Avoid
- Do not overexert yourself.
- Do not sit in a chair with knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
- Do not smoke or use any form of nicotine.
- Avoid long automobile trips or flights.

Statesboro Questions
Will insurance cover my breast reduction?
Many plans cover breast reduction when medical necessity is documented, often through records of back, neck, or shoulder pain and skin irritation. Our team will help you with the pre-authorization process. When a reduction is self-pay, it typically costs $7,000 to $8,000 at RenewalMD, and Cherry, PatientFi, and CareCredit financing are available.
Do I have to drive to Savannah for breast reduction surgery?
Only for the surgery itself. Your consultation, pre-op visit, and post-op checks can be done at our Statesboro office on Merchant Way. The procedure is performed at RenewalASC in Savannah under general anesthesia and takes 2 to 3 hours.
How long is recovery from a breast reduction?
Plan to rest and avoid overexerting yourself for the first 2 weeks. You will wear a surgical bra for 2 to 3 weeks. Most patients return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks and reach full recovery at 4 to 6 weeks. If your work is physical, plan for the longer end of that range.
Will a breast reduction help my back pain?
Most patients experience significant or complete relief from back, neck, and shoulder pain after a reduction, and many notice it soon after surgery. Individual results vary.
Can I breastfeed after a breast reduction?
Breastfeeding afterward is possible for some women but is not assured for everyone. If you plan to have children, bring this to your consultation with Dr. McGovern so it shapes the surgical plan.
